Some Of Our Hopes And Aims
We started GEM to enjoy our modelling more, and have since tried to promote the hobby and pass our skills and experience on to others. We hope to be able to continue doing so over the coming years, and welcome anyone in the area to join in.
About to change the club name to Ellesmere Model Railway Club, David and the GEM / EMRC crew are currently working to update the Ellesmere layout (main board pictured above) following our highly successful 2013 show. There are a number of improvements and updating that needs to be made as the boys found out, including replacing some points and track work, and rebuilding the two end boards to allow for a better approach into the main tracks, but there is nothing that is too difficult or drastic to do.
Model railways have featured greatly in the past, and now we are able to do something about it once more. Having had fun with layouts and the public at our last couple of annual shows, we have decided this is the way to go now with the club, hence the imminent name change.
We are currently working on the Ellesmere layout in my workshop, whilst also looking for a new permanent clubhouse where we can have members operating layouts and visitors can drop in for a coffee and chat.
For the near future we are considering a new 00 Gauge layout loosely based on a Southern Region terminus that would allow visiting trains from other rail companies, that all members can have a hand in designing, construction and running.
Can anyone out there help us? We would dearly like to stay local to Ellesmere if at all possible. If you know of anywhere for a reasonable cost, please email us at [email protected]
